In regards to communication theories, the issue of feedback is broached in Shramm's third model. I have had the opportunity to be in a leadership position as a sales manager and came to find that feedback is key in all communication, but especially with someone in a leadership position. My sales staff was coming to me with potential sales opportunities and wanted to get my feedback to see if this would be worthwhile efforts to increase their performance and our business. Feedback is key to managers because your employees come to you looking for guidance and if you do not give them that guidance (feedback), they might not be effective and neither would your communication.
Here is an article that defines a number of various communication theories.

As Patrick commented, feedback is important through all channels of an organization. The model of many-2-many that our speaker presented in class on Wednesday very nicely highlights this thought. In several of my job experiences a performance review was an asset both myself and management were able to utilize. I was able to hear, in a constructive manner, my areas for improvement and also given praise for my accomplishments. Thus the organization was able to improve by using a feedback evaluation approach.

It is amazing how many internal problems could be solved by a company if they would simply learn to improve their communications within the company. Decentralizing a companies communication efforts may save more money but in the long run it is not a sensible option for the company. Proper communication will aid and boost each department in the company. We have all taken part in group projects while in college which require an organized structure for communication. I have seen projects succeed or fail based on the communication within the group members. A project will succeed because everyone understands what they are to do and they can also contact other people to help them with ideas that may be of use to them. I have seen projects fail because people do not communicate and many pieces of the project overlap and there is very little organization.

As Patrick mentions, feedback is very important in a company. In my own personal experience at work, the company gives us the chance to give them feedback by having surveys and skip level meetings. As stated in the attached link, feedback in a company can improve results and strengthen relationships. Also, feedback is not necessarily a judgement because feedback is meant to help people change.
